Telangana Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao on Wednesday unveiled the state's first scientifically prepared Contingency Plan to address the possible impact of the El Niño weather phenomenon. The plan was released at the Secretariat during a high-level review meeting attended by heads of various departments under the Agriculture and Cooperation ministries. The initiative aims to strengthen preparedness for potential drought conditions through scientific planning and coordinated administrative action.
The minister said the contingency plan includes district-wise and mandal-wise rainfall deficit assessments, weather forecasts for the next two months and detailed operational guidelines for district collectors and officials. He added that weather updates from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) will be shared on a daily, weekly and monthly basis with concerned departments. Farmers will receive scientific advisories on crop selection, water management and agricultural practices to minimize crop losses, while all departments will work in coordination to effectively tackle changing weather conditions.
