Telangana Ministers Meet DK Shivakumar Seeking Krishna Water Release

Telangana Ministers Jupally Krishna Rao and Vakiti Srihari, along with MLAs Bandla Krishnamohan Reddy, Megha Reddy and Madhusudhan Reddy, met Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar to discuss the release of Krishna river water for irrigation and drinking water needs in the erstwhile Palamuru region. The delegation highlighted the need to protect standing crops in the Jurala, Bhima, Nettempadu and Koilsagar ayacut areas.

The representatives requested Karnataka to release 5,000 cusecs of Krishna water continuously for one month. They said the water would help protect crops that are currently at a crucial stage and support the livelihoods of farming families dependent on agriculture. The delegation also appealed for a phased and regulated release of water, citing the possibility of further rainfall in the Krishna basin during the remaining monsoon period. The Telangana government has recently acknowledged water shortages in the Jurala ayacut, while seeking measures to manage the situation.
