The Telangana Government is preparing to intensify its crackdown on food adulteration and drug-related offences by introducing major administrative reforms. In view of the increasing incidence of cancer and other health issues linked to adulterated food, the government has proposed merging the Food Safety Department and the Drug Control Department into a single integrated organization. The proposed body will function under one Head of Department (HOD) to improve coordination, enforcement, and regulatory oversight.
As part of the proposed reforms, the government is also planning to reorganize the Greyhounds and OCTOPUS forces to strengthen implementation and enforcement mechanisms. The initiative aims to improve surveillance, curb the sale of adulterated food products, and crack down on illegal drug activities through a more coordinated and efficient administrative framework.
