Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka said the state government is giving special priority to sports development and the promotion of athletes. He was speaking at the closing ceremony of the Indian Golf Premier League (IGPL) tournament held at the golf course near Golconda Fort in Hyderabad on Saturday. Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy also attended the event, organised jointly by the Hyderabad Golf Association, NDTV, AM Green and IGPL. Bhatti said the government is committed to providing world-class sports infrastructure, better training and incentives for young athletes. He also recalled the Chief Minister’s announcement about plans to build a world-class sports stadium in Hyderabad.
The Deputy Chief Minister said the government was studying sports development models followed by countries such as South Korea, where universities have achieved significant success in competitive sports. He explained that the Chief Minister had recently reviewed the progress of sports and related activities in the state and directed officials to study the training methods, facilities and incentives that help universities win numerous medals. According to Bhatti, the Chief Minister had personally visited a university in South Korea and held discussions with its vice-chancellor and sports officials. The state is considering an MoU with the institution to provide advanced sports training to students in Telangana. Bhatti said the government aims to adopt international training practices and strengthen Hyderabad’s position as a major sports and tourism destination.
Bhatti also highlighted golf’s growing popularity in India and around the world, noting that the Hyderabad Golf Course near the historic Golconda Fort adds to the city’s appeal. He assured continued support for the golf course and other sports venues in the state. Congratulating the IGPL participants and winners, he wished them greater success in the future and encouraged them to bring recognition to the country and Telangana. He also thanked the organisers and those who invited him to the event. Bhatti later presented trophies to the winners and called for more initiatives to encourage athletes and promote sports in the state.
