Telangana Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju has directed officials to prepare a comprehensive action plan to develop the state into an international medical and wellness tourism destination. As part of the Telangana Tourism Policy 2025–30, the government aims to promote Hyderabad’s healthcare facilities to attract more international patients. Officials informed the meeting that Hyderabad has 89 hospitals accredited by the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH) and eight hospitals accredited by the Joint Commission International (JCI). Patients from the Middle East, Africa and other regions are already travelling to the city for medical treatment.
Jaju called for a clear strategy covering infrastructure, investment opportunities, international promotion and coordination among departments. He directed officials to encourage medical tourism projects under the Invest Telangana initiative and prepare detailed project reports (DPRs) before the Telangana Global Summit. He also called for a single-window portal to streamline medical consultations, treatments and hospital services. In addition, officials were asked to strengthen transparency and ensure compliance with regulations governing organ transplantation. Senior officials from the tourism, health and finance departments attended the meeting.
