The shortage of teachers continues to be a major concern in government and local body schools across Telangana even after the commencement of the 2026-27 academic year. A significant number of teaching positions have fallen vacant due to recent retirements. Based on student enrollment data as of June 20, the School Education Department directed District Education Officers to identify surplus teachers and redeploy them to schools facing staff shortages.
However, teachers argue that redeployment alone cannot solve the issue. They point out that secondary schools require subject-specific teachers, especially for Mathematics, Physics, and Biology. Reports indicate that several government high schools have begun the academic year without teachers for these key subjects, raising concerns about the quality of education and student learning outcomes.
