Former Tehelka editor Tarun Tejpal has approached the Supreme Court challenging the 10-year prison sentence awarded to him in the 2013 rape case. The Bombay High Court’s Goa bench sentenced Tejpal to 10 years in prison on August 6. Challenging the verdict, Tejpal has now filed a petition before the Supreme Court seeking relief.
Meanwhile, the Goa government had already approached the Supreme Court seeking a life sentence for Tejpal in the same case. As a result, both Tejpal and the Goa government have filed cross-petitions before the Supreme Court, challenging different aspects of the sentence. The matter is now set to come under the apex court’s consideration.
