Tanks Stand Like an Iron Wall at the Borders: Rajnath Singh

Despite the growing role of drones and missiles in modern warfare, tanks continue to play a crucial role in ground battles, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said. He stated that tanks stand like an iron wall along the country's borders, strengthening national security and boosting the morale of soldiers. Singh laid the foundation stone for a new T-Series tank repair and overhaul facility at the 57-year-old Vehicle Factory Ordnance Unit in Jabalpur, being developed at an estimated cost of Rs 472 crore.

The new Jabalpur facility will have the capacity to overhaul around 80 T-72 and T-90 tanks every year, Singh said, adding that the Indian Army is among the world's most powerful military forces. The Army requires the overhaul of nearly 230 tanks annually, while the Heavy Vehicles Factory in Avadi, Tamil Nadu, currently handles around 150 tanks each year. The remaining overhaul requirements are expected to be met through the new facility being established in Jabalpur.
