The Tamil Nadu government has introduced a mandatory biometric and Face ID-based attendance system for employees working in the Human Resources Management (HRM) department of the State Secretariat. Effective from June 1, all officers and staff members are required to mark their attendance digitally before 10 AM. This marks the first official implementation of a digital attendance system within the Secretariat.
The initiative aims to improve discipline, punctuality, transparency, and accountability in government offices. Employees must continue signing the physical attendance register alongside the digital system during the initial phase and are required to wear official identity cards while on the premises. After successfully addressing concerns raised during earlier trial runs, the government has launched the system as a pilot project in the HRM department and plans to expand it gradually to other departments in the Secretariat.
