Tamil Nadu CM Vijay Warns Against Offensive Remarks on Women

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay has warned that the law will not remain a silent spectator to offensive or derogatory remarks against women. Speaking in the state Assembly, he said everyone should introspect on how they exercise freedom of expression and stressed that insulting women is unacceptable. His remarks came amid the ongoing controversy over comments reportedly made by Udhayanidhi Stalin referring to actor Trisha. Without naming him, Vijay said people using words with double meanings should remember that the public is watching their statements. He also referred to the humiliation faced by former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa in the Assembly and urged leaders not to view the issue through a political lens.

Vijay also responded strongly to criticism over law and order in the state. He said the police force is not merely meant to make arrests but is an important foundation for development, adding that the police should be friends to those who follow the law and firm against those who violate it. He maintained that politicians and officials should not interfere in police duties and said his government would focus on development rather than criticism. Vijay reiterated that corruption would not be tolerated and warned officials against indulging in corrupt practices. He also said custodial offences cannot be treated as routine incidents and assured that such cases would be subjected to transparent inquiries through magistrates.
