Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has announced a cash incentive of ₹75 lakh for Indian cricketer Washington Sundar in recognition of his contribution to India’s gold-medal-winning campaign at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan. Sundar, who hails from Tamil Nadu, played an important role in India’s men’s cricket final against Pakistan, helping the team secure the gold medal with a 19-run victory.
India, after opting to bat first, posted 211/6 in 20 overs, with Abhishek Sharma scoring 61 and Tilak Varma remaining unbeaten on 51. In the chase, Pakistan managed 192/6, despite Hasan Nawaz’s fighting 96. Washington Sundar delivered a crucial bowling performance, taking 2/29, including the wicket of Abdul Samad in the 18th over.
