M Pool Pandian, a septuagenarian alms-seeker from Tamil Nadu’s Thoothukudi district, has become an inspiring symbol of humanity and selfless service. Despite living in extreme poverty after being abandoned by his family, Pandian travels across southern Tamil Nadu seeking alms and donates most of the money he collects for public welfare and humanitarian causes.
Inspired by former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Kamaraj, Pandian has reportedly donated more than ₹50 lakh over the years to improve government school infrastructure, plant saplings and support relief efforts. He has also contributed regularly to the Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund, including during the COVID-19 pandemic and for humanitarian assistance to Sri Lanka, earning admiration across the country.
