APCC chief Y.S. Sharmila Reddy expressed deep grief over the death of medical student Priyanka, who reportedly fought for her life before succumbing to her injuries. She alleged that the incident reflected the accused’s extreme brutality and questioned the state government’s response. Sharmila also criticised the police for allegedly delaying the registration of an FIR and demanded that the case be treated as a murder case and investigated accordingly.
Sharmila demanded strict punishment for those responsible and called for the establishment of a fast-track court to ensure speedy justice for Priyanka’s family. She also urged the government to make violence against women a key issue during the upcoming Assembly session and conduct a detailed discussion on the reasons behind the increasing incidents. She called for immediate measures to strengthen women’s safety and prevent such crimes.
