Supreme Court’s Key Suggestions on Pending Traffic Challans..

The Supreme Court has suggested exploring stricter measures to recover pending traffic challans. The court was informed that electronic enforcement had resulted in challans worth around ₹45,000 crore being issued, while only about ₹25,000 crore had been collected. The court indicated that more effective mechanisms may be required to improve the recovery of outstanding challans.

Among the measures suggested for consideration are linking pending traffic challans with electricity bills, restricting online transport-related services for vehicles with unpaid challans, and examining restrictions on vehicle ownership transfers and RC-related services. The court also suggested considering action against driving licences of repeat traffic offenders and exploring ways to flag vehicles with pending challans to strengthen recovery efforts. However, linking challans with electricity bills is currently a suggestion or matter under consideration by the Supreme Court and is not a new rule already implemented across the country.
