Supreme Court Rejects Telangana MBBS Local Status Plea

The Supreme Court has dismissed Jella Ankitha’s plea seeking to be treated as a local candidate for Telangana MBBS/BDS admissions for the 2026–27 academic year. Ankitha argued that she had studied in Telangana from LKG through Class 10 and spent only two years in Andhra Pradesh for her intermediate education. She relied on earlier provisions concerning local status and sought permission to participate in the counselling process. The Supreme Court, however, declined to interfere and upheld the applicable local-candidate requirement.

The case concerned the rule requiring candidates to have studied in Telangana for four consecutive academic years immediately preceding the qualifying examination, subject to specified exceptions under G.O.Ms.No.150 dated September 8, 2025. The bench of Justices P.S. Narasimha and Alok Aradhe dismissed Ankitha’s plea, indicating that the prescribed four-year requirement applies to her circumstances.
