Supreme Court Makes Key Remarks on Rising Airfares

The Supreme Court has heard a petition seeking regulations to control sharp increases in airfares during festive seasons. During the proceedings, the Solicitor General informed the court that the rules intended to address the issue had been finalised and had received administrative approval. He further stated that the rules would be officially published within the next two weeks, marking a step forward in the proposed regulatory process.

The Supreme Court directed that the published rules be placed before it by November 16. Commenting on the sharp rise in airfares, the court observed that its members were also affected by such price surges. The proposed regulations are expected to address concerns over steep ticket prices during periods of high travel demand. Whether the new rules will provide relief to passengers and effectively curb sudden fare increases during festivals remains to be seen.
