The Supreme Court on Monday issued significant directions regarding sharp fluctuations in air ticket prices and additional charges imposed by airlines. The court asked the Central Government to submit, within two weeks, the new rules framed under the Bharatiya Vayuyan Adhiniyam, 2024, a law introduced to modernize India’s civil aviation sector. A bench comprising Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Sandeep Mehta directed that the rules be submitted in a sealed cover.
The bench clarified that submitting these rules to the court is independent of their presentation in Parliament. The directions came while hearing a petition filed by social activist S. Lakshminarayanan, who raised concerns over airline pricing practices. The Supreme Court has adjourned the matter for further hearing to August 3.
