The Jharkhand government has taken a key decision amid student protests over alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations. Chief Minister Hemant Soren announced that all examinations conducted by Lucknow-based outsourcing firm TDPL since 2014 would be cancelled. The government said the decision was taken in view of the students’ agitation over alleged malpractice. A CID probe will also be conducted into the irregularities.
However, the cancellation of the examinations has not ended the protests. Agitating students said they would continue their movement until a CBI investigation is ordered. Student leader Ravindra Paswan said the protest would not be withdrawn unless the alleged irregularities were investigated by the CBI. The students are demanding an independent probe without the involvement of the state government, saying that only a CBI investigation can ensure justice.
