The Andhra Pradesh government has dismissed 70 government doctors for prolonged unauthorised absence from duty. Officials said the action was taken against 70 Civil Assistant Surgeons under the Directorate of Secondary Health who had remained absent for more than a year. Show-cause notices were issued under the applicable service rules before the dismissal orders were issued.
The government has also directed officials to initiate disciplinary action against another 193 doctors whose cases are at various stages. In May, 51 doctors under the Directorate of Medical Education were also dismissed over prolonged absence from duty. Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav directed officials not to overlook unauthorised absenteeism by doctors.
