India-US trade deal negotiations appear to have reached a plateau, with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman saying that further give-and-take between the two sides could be difficult. Speaking at the Munich Leaders Meeting in New Delhi, she said negotiations are still underway, but both countries may have limited room to offer additional concessions. She added that any further progress would depend on whether both sides are willing to find space for compromise.
Sitharaman said the US is seeking to address the trade imbalance with India, while stressing that negotiations remain the way forward. She noted that tariffs, which were traditionally part of trade negotiations, are increasingly being used as a tool to address trade deficits. The minister also said several countries are showing greater interest in bilateral trade agreements, with such pacts being viewed as more beneficial in the current environment.
