Srivari Hundi Foreign Coins Made Available to NRIs

Foreign coins offered by devotees in the Tirumala Srivari Hundi have been made available to the Telugu diaspora by the APNRT Society. The society purchased a quantity of foreign coins from TTD and has packaged them in specially designed boxes. At present, US currency coins are available, with each box containing coins worth $20. The APNRT Society is offering each box for $25.

Devotees settled abroad often offer notes and coins of their local currency in the Srivari Hundi when they visit Tirumala. While banks accept foreign currency notes from TTD, RBI regulations do not permit them to accept foreign coins, prompting TTD to sell the coins in bulk. With the aim of making these coins available to the Telugu diaspora, the APNRT Society had earlier launched the ‘Seven Hills to Seven Continents’ initiative. The programme was discontinued in 2019 and was later revived after the coalition government came to power. APNRT Society president Ravi Kumar Vemuru said NRIs interested in purchasing the coins can visit the society’s office in Tadepalli.
