Kalabhairava is revered in Hindu tradition as a fierce manifestation of Lord Shiva and is traditionally associated with time, protection and the safeguarding of sacred spaces. Devotees worship him as a guardian deity who protects temples and removes fear and obstacles. Kashi is particularly associated with Kalabhairava, who is traditionally regarded as the city’s guardian. Numerous Shiva temples also have a shrine or representation dedicated to Kalabhairava.

Ramareddy Kalabhairava Temple is located around 8 km from Kamareddy in Telangana and is considered a significant pilgrimage site by local devotees. According to the temple’s Sthala Puranam, a Kalabhairava idol was being transported from Kashi on a bullock cart around the 16th century. When the group stopped at the present location for the night, a loud sound was reportedly heard at midnight and the cart broke down. The idol is believed to have remained standing at the spot, which devotees interpreted as the deity’s wish to stay there. The temple was subsequently established at the site.

The sanctum houses an approximately eight-foot-tall Kalabhairava idol with a dog as his traditional vehicle. The temple complex also has a shrine dedicated to Shani. Local accounts associate the shrine with a long history and with the worship of multiple forms of Bhairava in the surrounding village. Kalabhairava festivals are celebrated during Kartika month, while special worship is conducted on Kalabhairava Jayanti, observed on Margashirsha Shukla Ashtami.

Devotees also believe that offering prayers at the temple can provide relief from fear, difficulties and health-related concerns. These are matters of religious belief and faith rather than established medical or scientific claims.
