Srikalahasti Pournami Giripradakshina: Spiritual Significance and Arrangements

Giripradakshina refers to the traditional practice of circumambulating a sacred hill or mountain with devotion. It holds an important place in Hindu religious traditions, particularly at pilgrimage centres such as Arunachalam and Simhachalam. At Srikalahasti, devotees traditionally undertake the Kailasagiri Giripradakshina on Pournami while remembering Lord Shiva and chanting “Om Namah Shivaya.”

Devotees believe that walking around the sacred hill with devotion and meditation provides mental peace and strengthens spiritual reflection. Many participants also offer prayers for the well-being, health and prosperity of their families. The practice is regarded by devotees as a form of spiritual discipline rather than merely a physical walk.

For the Pournami Giripradakshina, the Srikalahasteeswara Swamy Devasthanam is making arrangements for devotees. A free bus facility will be available from the Sri Jala Vinayaka Swamy Temple near the temple’s third gate for devotees travelling for the Kailasagiri Giripradakshina from 6:00 PM. Complimentary breakfast and prasadam will also be distributed to participating devotees. Devotees have been requested to make use of the facilities, maintain cleanliness and participate in the programme in an orderly manner.
