Zoho founder Sridhar Vembu has urged Indian professionals working in the United States to return to India and contribute to the country’s development amid growing concerns over the Trump administration’s suspension of eight companies from the Permanent Labour Certification (PERM) programme. Reacting to the development, Vembu said Indian professionals had played a significant role in advancing America’s technology sector. However, he suggested that a section of the country no longer appeared to value their contributions. Acknowledging that leaving behind a life built over years in the US could be painful, he called on Indians to view the situation as an opportunity to build a new future in their home country. In a post on X, he urged them to return and help build India.
The US Department of Labor reportedly suspended the companies over allegations of misuse of the PERM system, which supports employment-based permanent residency applications for eligible foreign workers. The suspension means new applications from the affected companies will not be accepted while the restrictions remain in force, and pending cases may also be put on hold. The move has raised concerns among Indian technology professionals hoping to obtain Green Cards through their employers. However, the suspension does not automatically cancel existing H-1B visas. The development has renewed discussions about career opportunities for Indian professionals abroad and the possibility of attracting more skilled talent back to India.
