Parliament may convene a special session this month to consider constitutional amendment bills related to delimitation and women’s reservation, according to reports. The proposed session could be used to take up the legislation for approval. However, the dates and official agenda have not yet been confirmed.
The government is believed to have the numbers required to secure the bills’ passage. Meanwhile, it is reportedly in contact with the DMK and some smaller opposition parties to build support. The parties’ positions on the proposed amendments and the discussions during the session are likely to be closely watched.
