Environmentalist Sonam Wangchuk has entered the 17th day of his indefinite hunger strike, with reports indicating that his health has deteriorated significantly. A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed before the Delhi High Court claimed that Wangchuk's condition could become life-threatening within the next two days and sought urgent judicial intervention to ensure his safety.
The petition requested the court to direct the Central Government and the Delhi Government to provide immediate medical treatment and nutritional support to Wangchuk, even if it required compulsory medical intervention. When the matter came up for hearing on Wednesday, no representative appeared on behalf of the Centre. The Delhi High Court subsequently adjourned the hearing to Thursday.
