Singareni ‘Maruperla’ Issue to Be Examined on Humanitarian Grounds: Bhatti Vikramarka

Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka has said that the state government is committed to examining the long-pending ‘Maruperla’ issue in Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) on humanitarian grounds. Speaking in the Legislative Council, he said the issue dates back to the 1990s and has existed as a legacy problem since 1997. In some cases, individuals were reportedly working under the names recorded in official registers of other persons. Bhatti said the government has already constituted a committee to examine the matter and a decision will be taken based on its recommendations.

Bhatti said SCCL currently has around 90,000 employees, while the ‘Maruperla’ issue concerns only 128 people. Although the number is relatively small, legal complications have made officials cautious about taking a decision. He said the government had considered both the concerns of officials regarding possible future action and representations from local public representatives seeking a solution. Since the affected workers have been serving for many years, the government wants the committee to examine the matter comprehensively from a humanitarian perspective without placing undue responsibility on any individual official. A permanent solution is expected after the committee submits its report.
