The hike in shrimp feed prices has come into effect from today, increasing the financial burden on aquaculture farmers. The maximum retail price of Vannamei shrimp feed has risen by ₹9,350 per tonne, while Tiger shrimp feed has become costlier by ₹12,870 per tonne. With the latest increase, the price of Vannamei feed has reached ₹1.23 lakh per tonne, while Tiger shrimp feed now costs ₹1.39 lakh per tonne.
The price hike has reportedly been implemented without reaching a consensus among the stakeholders. The increase has triggered concern among aquaculture farmers, who are already dealing with rising production costs. Farmers fear that the higher feed prices will further affect their operating expenses and profitability, leading to growing dissatisfaction across the aquaculture sector.
