The Delhi High Court on May 21 refused to grant interim relief to BJP Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha in a case concerning his personality rights. The case was linked to the alleged misuse of his name, image, and identity in memes, satire, AI generated deepfakes, and online content following his political shift from Aam Aadmi Party to the Bharatiya Janata Party.
During the hearing, the court observed that political satire and criticism are essential elements of democracy and cannot be restricted merely because they are uncomfortable for public figures. The court noted that much of the content appeared to fall under political commentary rather than commercial misuse, sparking wider debate online about free speech and AI-generated content.
