CJP leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka were served notices by the Delhi Crime Branch shortly after their release on bail from Tihar Jail. The notices were reportedly issued at around 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, directing them to appear at the Crime Branch office for questioning on Thursday afternoon, October 22. The investigation concerns alleged violations of provisions under Section 233 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), as well as allegations that the leaders unlawfully proceeded towards Jantar Mantar during a CJP protest. Police may also question another CJP leader, Ajinkya Shinde, about his alleged role in the demonstrations.
Das and Ranka were arrested on October 13 over alleged violations of protest-related rules and were subsequently remanded to judicial custody for a week before being sent to Tihar Jail. On Wednesday, the court granted both leaders bail against personal bonds of ₹50,000 each. It also rejected the Delhi Police’s plea seeking an additional three days of judicial custody, observing that further custody was not necessary. The issuance of fresh police notices soon after their release has drawn attention to the ongoing investigation.
