Severe Flooding in Thailand: Bangkok’s All 50 Districts Declared Disaster Areas

Thailand is witnessing severe flooding, with Bangkok facing widespread waterlogging following days of torrential rain. Nearly 300 mm of rainfall was recorded in parts of the capital within about 48 hours, flooding major roads and canals and disrupting normal life. In view of the worsening situation, authorities have declared all 50 districts of Bangkok as disaster-affected areas to speed up relief and response measures.

The flooding has disrupted road traffic and affected access to transport hubs. Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport has continued flight operations, although authorities have warned travellers to allow additional time because flooding has affected road access and ground-handling operations, with some delays reported. Thailand’s Meteorological Department has forecast continued heavy to very heavy rain, keeping the flood situation under close watch.
