Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, BJP leader Tarun Chugh, and six others were sworn in as Rajya Sabha members on Monday. Kharge, re-elected from Karnataka, was administered the oath by Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan in his chamber. With his new term, he will continue as the Leader of the Opposition in the Upper House.
After taking oath, Kharge said that his primary responsibility is to hold the government accountable by raising public issues. He also stated that he will work with the INDIA bloc in the upcoming monsoon session. Members from Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Manipur, and Rajasthan also took oath. Senior leaders including Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi attended the event.
