Secunderabad Division Partners With IIT Hyderabad

The Secunderabad Division of South Central Railway has partnered with IIT Hyderabad to undertake comprehensive traffic assessment studies at Secunderabad and Lingampalli railway stations. The initiative is aimed at improving passenger movement, reducing traffic congestion and strengthening multimodal connectivity around the stations. The study will assess vehicular and pedestrian movement, traffic circulation, parking facilities, passenger pick-up and drop-off arrangements, junctions and signal systems, traffic bottlenecks and traffic management measures in and around the station premises.

The project will use drone-based surveillance, AI and machine-learning-enabled CCTV analysis, field surveys and traffic simulations to develop data-driven solutions. The findings are expected to improve passenger safety, accessibility and operational efficiency while also supporting the ongoing redevelopment works at both stations. The initiative is being coordinated by the Commercial Department of the Secunderabad Division in collaboration with Engineering, Railway Protection Force and Operating departments and other stakeholders. Divisional Railway Manager Dr R. Gopalakrishnan said the study could provide effective, data-based solutions to current traffic challenges and potentially be replicated at other major railway stations. South Central Railway General Manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava appreciated the division’s efforts to adopt modern technology in partnership with IIT Hyderabad to address growing traffic congestion.
