The High Court heard a petition filed by Vijayalakshmi, the mother of Sai Krishna, seeking a judicial inquiry into the alleged lockup death of her son. The Special Investigation Team (SIT), in its counter affidavit, stated that a judicial probe is not required as a magisterial inquiry is already being conducted by the District Collector in accordance with the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the guidelines of the Human Rights Commission.
During the hearing, Vijayalakshmi sought reports on CCTV surveillance from Krishnalanka Police Station and other police stations in Vijayawada City. The SIT opposed the request, arguing that seeking CCTV footage unrelated to the case was unnecessary and requested the court to dismiss that plea. Vijayalakshmi's counsel also sought directions to preserve all witness statements in court, arguing that failure to do so could allow witnesses to change their statements later, particularly as many of the witnesses are police personnel.
