A groundbreaking ceremony was held for the Sabhar (Amul) Dairy Mega Integrated Dairy Plant at the Urja Industrial Park in Toopran, Medak district. Speaking at the event, Telangana IT and Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu said the project, being established with an investment of around ₹400 crore, would mark a significant milestone for the state’s dairy processing sector. The plant will initially have the capacity to process five lakh litres of milk per day and is expected to create around 350 direct employment opportunities. The minister said nearly 10,000 dairy farmers could benefit through milk procurement and the wider dairy value chain. The facility is expected to produce milk, curd, paneer, ice cream, lassi, ghee, buttermilk and bakery products.
Sridhar Babu said Sabhar Dairy began its milk operations in Telangana in 2015 and currently procures more than one lakh litres of milk every day from dairy farmers in the state. He said the project could strengthen an integrated dairy ecosystem covering milk collection, transportation, processing, cold chain, packaging, distribution, retail and allied services. Referring to the cooperative dairy model, the minister said a significant share of consumer spending reaches milk producers and claimed that around 80% of every rupee spent by consumers under the Amul farmer-centric model reaches dairy producers. He said the investment reflects growing investor confidence in Telangana and reaffirmed the government’s support for investments in agriculture, food processing, rural employment and farmer-led value chains.
