The Union Ports Ministry has taken a key step to ease traffic congestion at Visakhapatnam Port by approving an internal flyover at an estimated cost of ₹334 crore. A 3.5-kilometre elevated corridor connecting Convent Junction with the dock area has been proposed. The project has received approval from the Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways.
The flyover will separate road and rail traffic within the port, helping speed up cargo movement and improve operational efficiency. The project aims to prevent delays at nine railway crossings and remove a major transportation bottleneck in Visakhapatnam. The Ports Ministry plans to complete the internal flyover within 30 months.
