Online hate targeting South Asians in the United States has risen sharply, particularly against people of Indian, Pakistani and Bangladeshi origin, according to a recent report by the Washington-based Center for the Study of Organized Hate (CSOH). The report found that the monthly volume of anti-South Asian hate posts on X increased by 240%, from 12,904 in January 2024 to 43,843 in June 2026. Researchers identified around 542,360 such posts on X between January 2025 and June 2026.
The report associates the rise with immigration debates, economic resentment, political rhetoric and the growing visibility of South Asians in American public life. H-1B visas and claims that South Asians are taking American jobs were among the prominent themes in the posts. Experts quoted in the report's coverage said such hostility could affect South Asian communities and, in the longer term, have implications for the US technology sector and people-to-people ties between India and the US. The report, however, identifies associations between these factors and the increase rather than establishing direct causation.
