Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has written to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis seeking a meeting to discuss the height and construction of the Tummidihetti barrage. He requested an early confirmation of a suitable date for a discussion with a Telangana delegation regarding the project.
The Tummidihatti barrage is part of the Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Pranahita–Chevella Sujala Sravanthi project. While the original proposal planned a height of 152 metres, Maharashtra had earlier agreed in 2016 to a 148-metre full reservoir level. The Telangana government has now revisited the proposal, stating that 148 metres is insufficient for the water needs of northern Telangana districts. The Chief Minister noted that a slightly higher level would not significantly increase submergence in Maharashtra and would help Telangana draw water through gravity flow.
