Kalvakuntla Kavitha, honorary president of the HMS and chief of the Telangana Rakshana Sena, led a protest at Singareni Bhavan in Hyderabad, demanding immediate resolution of various issues faced by Singareni workers. She demanded a 35 per cent share of Singareni’s profits for workers and called for action on the cases of eligible employees who had applied to the medical board. She also sought medical board meetings twice a month, resolution of alias-name issues and filling of vacant junior assistant posts.
Kavitha further demanded dependent jobs for workers whose cases were held up on vigilance grounds and sought two guntas of land for every worker under a housing scheme. She called for allocation of new coal blocks to Singareni, abolition of income tax for Singareni employees and payment of wages to contract workers in line with High Power Committee recommendations. She also demanded that the government immediately clear what she described as Rs 62,000 crore in dues to Singareni. Her demands come amid continuing discussions over workers’ welfare, medical boards, dependent appointments and the financial position of the coal company.
