Amid the controversy surrounding the alleged theft of donations at the Ayodhya Ram Mandir, Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust Treasurer Govind Dev Giri has clarified that he has no role in counting temple donations. In a detailed statement, he called for a thorough and impartial investigation into the matter, saying the truth must come out. He also stated that he never lobbied for the posts of trustee or treasurer and considered it a privilege to serve Lord Ram in any capacity.
Govind Dev Giri explained that his responsibilities are limited to overseeing the Trust's accounts and that chartered accountants from the Pune office periodically review the financial records. He said he is neither an authorised signatory for Trust cheques nor does he possess a cheque book. Stressing that he has no connection with the donation counting process, he said the procedure is supervised by local trustees under a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) jointly framed with the State Bank of India. He urged people to trust the investigating agencies and expressed confidence that those responsible would face legal action.
