Peace activist Rakhi Tripathi has criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over its handling of cases involving people convicted of rape. In a post on X on October 13, she objected to the public honouring of convicted offenders and wrote, “I’m not a BJP supporter, but it’s the only party where convicted rapists get garlanded. So, what choice do I have?” Her remarks expressed strong disapproval of what she described as the party’s approach to such cases.
Tripathi’s post has drawn attention to the public treatment of people convicted of sexual violence and the political debate surrounding the honouring of such individuals. However, she did not identify a specific incident or name the individuals she was referring to in the post. Her comments have brought renewed focus to questions of justice, women’s safety and the public response to convictions in sexual violence cases.
