The Central Government has appointed Lieutenant General N.S. Raja Subramani as the next Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) of India. He will succeed the current CDS General Anil Chauhan, whose tenure ends on May 30, 2026. Raja Subramani has also been assigned the additional responsibility of Secretary of the Department of Military Affairs.
Raja Subramani is currently serving as the Military Advisor in the National Security Council Secretariat. He has decades of experience in the Indian Army and has held key positions, including Vice Chief of Army Staff and General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Central Command. He has been honoured with several awards, including the Param Vishisht Seva Medal.
