The India Meteorological Department and other weather agencies have forecast the formation of separate low-pressure systems over the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea during the last week of this month. A surface circulation is expected over the South Andaman Sea and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal by the 22nd, potentially developing into a low-pressure area by the 24th. Another circulation may form over the southeast Arabian Sea by the 23rd, with a low-pressure system likely by the 25th or 26th. A trough may also extend from the Bay of Bengal to the Arabian Sea. A weather expert said one of the systems could intensify into a depression or cyclone, but it is too early to determine which one.
Warmer Conditions Expected by December
Sea surface temperatures in the western and central equatorial Pacific are reportedly around 3°C above normal, raising concerns that a strong El Niño could develop by December. Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon has reached coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema, bringing rain to several areas over the past two days. On Friday, Renigunta in Tirupati district recorded 86.25 mm of rainfall, Santhanuthalapadu in Prakasam district received 81.69 mm, and areas including Kokkanti in Sri Sathya Sai district and Ammacheruvu in Annamayya district recorded 66.05 mm. The IMD has forecast rain at several places, with isolated heavy rainfall, across coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema over the next two days.
