Congress leader Rahul Gandhi criticised the Modi government after petrol and diesel prices were increased by around ₹3 per litre across India. In a post on X, he said the public was being forced to pay for the government’s mistakes and described the hike as a major burden on citizens.
This is the first nationwide fuel price hike since 2022. The government and oil companies have cited rising global crude oil prices and West Asia tensions as reasons behind the increase. Opposition parties, however, called it a “post-election burden” on the public.
