Congress leader Rahul Gandhi expressed solidarity with Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Rankala, who staged a protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. Criticising the authorities for arresting people holding a peaceful demonstration, Gandhi said displaying the national flag and protesting peacefully was not a crime. Questioning the cases filed against the young protesters and their detention, he said protecting constitutional rights was everyone’s responsibility. He also vowed to reclaim Jantar Mantar as a protest venue in a post on X.
CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke thanked Rahul Gandhi for his support. The development follows a recent announcement by Delhi Police restricting the use of Jantar Mantar as a protest venue. The CJP strongly opposed the decision, and some of its key leaders reached the site to stage a demonstration. Police subsequently arrested them for allegedly violating the rules and sent them to jail.
