The grand Jagannath Rath Yatra has begun today at the famous Jagannath Temple in Puri, Odisha. The nine day festival will witness Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Goddess Subhadra being taken to the Gundicha Temple on three specially decorated chariots. Devotees believe that pulling the holy chariots helps wash away sins and brings blessings.
Before the commencement of the yatra, the King of Odisha performs the traditional ‘Chhera Pahara’ ritual by sweeping the path of the chariots with a golden broom. The ritual symbolizes humility and devotion before the divine. Thousands of devotees are participating in the historic festival with great spiritual enthusiasm.
