The Telangana government has launched awareness campaigns across villages and towns to educate people about the possible effects of El Niño. The Information and Public Relations Department, in coordination with Telangana Samskruthika Sarathi, is conducting outreach programmes to inform the public about the potential challenges and necessary precautions. As part of the initiative, Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju attended a special programme at Ravindra Bharathi in Hyderabad on Friday. Addressing the gathering, he stressed the need to create widespread awareness about El Niño and ensure that people receive timely information and guidance. He also highlighted concerns over declining rainfall and its potential impact on agriculture and water availability across the state.
According to the Chief Secretary, Telangana has recorded a rainfall deficit of more than 20 per cent, while the area under cultivation has reportedly declined by around 20 per cent. He also referred to water storage levels in the state’s reservoirs, stressing the need for careful water management. Jaju urged people to conserve water and electricity and take precautions during hot weather. He advised residents to drink sufficient water, limit outdoor activities during the afternoon and pay special attention to the health of children and older people. He also called for preventive measures to address possible water shortages and emphasised the importance of providing continuous public advisories and warnings about the potential effects of El Niño.
