Protests demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar are continuing in the national capital, with tensions prevailing in Delhi. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court is scheduled to hear petitions concerning the functioning of the Election Commission of India and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. A bench headed by Chief Justice of India Justice Surya Kant will hear a petition seeking a probe by a special investigating agency into allegations related to Gyanesh Kumar’s conduct and functioning, along with other petitions challenging the legality of the SIR process.
Meanwhile, the Congress party will hold a meeting in the evening with AICC general secretaries and Pradesh Congress Committee presidents from all states to discuss nationwide protest programmes over the Election Commission and the SIR exercise. INDIA bloc MPs are also preparing to hold a protest in Delhi tomorrow. The alliance plans to march from Makar Dwar of Parliament to the Election Commission office at 10 am. Adding to the concerns surrounding Gyanesh Kumar, the Kerala government has already ordered an inquiry into allegations dating back to his tenure as Kerala PWD Secretary.
