Protest Permission Denied.. CJP Announces ‘Jail Bharo’ Agitation

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke has announced a ‘Jail Bharo Andolan’ in Mumbai on October 2 after police denied permission for the party’s proposed protest. The CJP had planned to hold the demonstration at Shivaji Park on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. Mumbai Police said it was not empowered to grant permission for a gathering at the venue, citing a Bombay High Court judgment and subsequent Maharashtra government guidelines. The police also cited concerns over noise pollution, traffic congestion and disruption to public movement, and advised the organisers to seek permission for an alternative venue.

Responding to the denial, Abhijeet Dipke said that measures to suppress citizens’ voices were unacceptable and announced the ‘Jail Bharo Andolan’ for October 2. The CJP has demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and called for a halt to the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. It has also sought changes to the legal framework governing the Election Commission. Amid allegations of internal differences within the poll body, the Election Commission has maintained that differences of opinion are normal in institutional deliberations and that key decisions were taken unanimously.
