Powerful Earthquake Hits Colombia

A powerful 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck Colombia on Monday, leaving at least 111 people dead, including three children. The strong tremor caused extensive damage to buildings and infrastructure, while hundreds of people are feared to be trapped under the debris of collapsed structures. Rescue teams have been working to locate survivors and assess the extent of the destruction.

The epicentre of the earthquake was identified near San José del Palmar in Colombia’s Chocó region, around 400 kilometres from the capital Bogotá. According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake originated at a depth of approximately 107 kilometres beneath the surface. Authorities are continuing rescue and relief operations as concerns grow over the possibility of additional casualties.
